For todays Supplier Spotlight we talk to Katie Clark of To have and to hold weddings about what services a wedding planner can offer and what it is like to be one!
Tell me a little bit about yourself and your background - How did you come to be involved within the wedding industry?
I started out in the event management industry, where I worked for over 7 years organising business2business summits all over the world. Then, after organising my own wedding in 2013, I started to think about how I could combine my love of weddings with my experience in managing corporate events, which is when To Have & To Hold Weddings was born.
Can you tell me more about what services you offer?
I offer a full range of services from full bespoke wedding planning packages - where I work alongside the bride and groom to help come up with concept ideas, organise all the suppliers, book venues and I can even help plan stag and hen parties - down to simple on the day execution packages. I can provide as much or as little help as the client wants and can accommodate any budget.
Can you explain the process of how you work with new clients?
The first thing I like to do is arrange an informal face-to-face meeting with my clients, so that they really feel relaxed and are able to be as open with me about their thoughts and vision for their wedding. I like to think that putting my clients at ease is one of my strong points - it's the most important day of their lives and I need them to be 100% comfortable with opening up to me about what they really want.
Any particular themes that you have found to be particular popular for your upcoming weddings?
I'm finding that vintage weddings are hugely popular at the moment as well as the country wedding style. Lots of people are going for a very relaxed and informal style at the moment, with lots of wild flowers and homemade looking accessories, which is such a great look for a summer wedding.
What are the biggest hurdles you and your clients could potentially come up against during the planning process?
The great British weather! Most brides want some aspect of their wedding to take place outside, whether this be the ceremony, the reception or just a few photographs taken outside. Unfortunately, in this country there's no guarantee of sunshine, however there's always a way to overcome this - it just takes a back-up plan!
Do you have any particularly exciting plans lined up for the business?
Yes, I'm currently introducing wedding styling as part of my business. This is incredibly exciting for me as it will allow me to showcase my creativity and provide a portfolio of work that might inspire future bride and grooms.
What's your favourite part of the job?
Seeing all the hard work pay off, there's so much job satisfaction in that - all the planning, the build-up and then the "I do's" - I just love it.
Any particular highlights you have experienced so far?
The first wedding I organised is still a personal highlight for me. It was a really magical day and reinforced that wedding planning was my calling.
For all couples out there getting married do you have any top tips for a successful day?
Hire a wedding planner! So many couples who don't do it, really do wish they had. The last thing you want to be doing on your wedding day is checking in with your suppliers to make sure they are going to be on time and that they know what they are doing, or relying on family or friends to set up your venue. With a wedding planner this is all taken care of for you, freeing you up to really enjoy your day.
