Foxy buds is a Bradford on Avon based floristry service brought to you by owner Caroline Bowater
Here we catch up with Caroline and pick her crains about what currently in and what to expect for wedding floristry in 2016.
How did you get into floristry?
I left teaching two years ago to bring up my two young boys and then fancied trying something new. I have always loved flowers and nature and also studied art and textile design at university so thought I would look into floral design. I soon discovered an amazing florist called Sabine Darrall who I studied with and was totally inspired by. I then went on to gain work experience with Sabine and other florists and soon began to get freelance work. Whilst building up my skills and working for others I created my own floral design business 'Foxy Buds'. I started very small selling bouquets and jam jars and that then progressed to getting booked for weddings. I now have weddings booked for as far away as December next year!
How would you describe the your style?
I would describe my style as natural that takes inspiration from the wonderful blooms we find naturally in the garden however I like to add an elegant twist to it so it is less wild with slightly more polish to it.
What's the best part about being a wedding florist?
For me as a wedding florist I have always personally treasured the moment I hand over the bride's bouquet to her. The look of shock and happiness often combined with joyful tears still gets me everytime as it is such an important moment for both of us - for the bride she gets to see her vision and for me I get to see enjoyment from my work.
What have been the popular trends for this year?
Modern day brides seem to be a braver nowdays with their ideas for bouquets and wedding flowers. This year in particular has seen a marked rise in brides requesting the bouquets to be bigger and more natural looking. Trailing ribbons is also something that is very much on trend still.
What can we expect in 2016?
It seems that trends are aiming more towards luxury for 2016. Its going to feature lots of oppulent flowers with big blooms. We will be veering away from the wild flower look and more into a glamourous look.
What would be the three top pieces of advice you would give to potential clients when considering the floristry for there wedding?
Firstly I always say to my clients to be brave with your colour choice. Lots of colour works really well and clashing tones being set off with different bloom sizes and textures adds a higher quality feel to the bouquet.
Secondly be open with your florist regarding your budget as they can suggest different options that still fit your brief.
Finally go with your heart. Brides often get bogged down in wedding inspiration and style advice from reading wedding magazines. Think what you love, what flowers mean to you, if you have favourite blooms that have personal memories associated make sure you use them. Remember you want to love your day so follow you dreams.
