Laura and Simon were a couple that knew exactly what they wanted from their wedding – a relaxed, natural feel for their photos and to just enjoy the day with the people they love. So simple, so beautiful – and it was a real treat to shoot!
We met Laura and Simon at the always amazing Chosen Wedding Fair last year. Laura is originally from Newcastle, while Simon originates from Worcester – but their story together started in a pub in Bristol while Laura was studying at Bristol University. Despite the fact that Laura works away a lot, this pair were a real team when it came to planning the wedding – making all the key decisions together and communicating everything really clearly. A true pleasure to work with!
After practicing with an engagement shoot with me a few months prior (some of you may remember our earlier blog), the day finally came and I started by meeting Laura, her Mum and bridesmaids at the stunning Avon Gorge Hotel, overlooking the Bristol suspension bridge. For this wedding, we also drafted in the assistance of a second photographer – Natalie – who went and met the boys at his home. Working with a second photographer is always a treat!
After shooting with the bride and groom in their respective locations, I met Natalie at the wedding venue – the absolutely stunning Leigh Court, Bristol. I’d never visited this venue for a wedding, but was absolutely blown away by this grand venue and it’s truly beautiful architecture! We were able to capture the happy guests arriving just in time for the ceremony.
The ceremony took place in the Great Hall, featuring an absolutely show-stopping double staircase – what an entrance for the bride!
Laura and Simon reflected their love of books and literature by styling the venue with Penguin books, accentuated with touches of orange. Their stationery was all designed to tie into the theme – the crème de la crème though had to be the stunning archway made of books outside the venue. I absolutely loved that the pair were able to reflect a real love in their life in their styling!
After capturing the happy faces of guests following the ceremony and finishing up the group shots, I was able to spend some time alone with Laura and Simon while they enjoyed those precious minutes together after getting married. The beautiful building really added a dramatic feel to these shots!
Following this, I was able to spend a great deal of time back with the couple, their friends and family to capture the speeches. As guests sat down to eat, I spent some time capturing the smaller details of the day in and around the venue.
As the evening went on and the weather turned, I got to spend some more time together with Laura and Simon. The rain was no problem at all, and in fact gave us an opportunity to take some fun shots with one of my favorite props – umbrellas! Leigh Court continued to shine through the rain and darkness with it’s beautiful outdoor lighting – once again adding a real sense of drama to the photos.
What I loved about Laura and Simon’s day was that – not only were they quite possibly the best organized pair I have had the privilege to work with – but they were also able to get the day that they had told me about from the very beginning; a day full of love, full of family, full of friends – and also their passions in life and their own stamp of individuality.
